RICHMOND, Va. – The search for the killer of a Chesterfield County college student has Virginia Beach police asking Richmond residents for help.
Darren Campbell, a junior at Old Dominion University, was shot and killed during an April 24 house party in Virginia Beach.
Based on witness information, Virginia Beach police made a composite sketch of the suspect:
“This person of interest is a black male with a light to medium complexion; he is in his early 20’s, stands approximately 5’10”-5’11” tall and weighs approximately 160 pounds,” a Virginia Beach Police spokesperson said. “He has/had a thin goatee and mustache as well as a low cut haircut. He has/had gold fronts on the top of his teeth.”
Detectives have asked people who attended the party from the Richmond area to speak with them if they already haven’t.

Friends who attended the party said they believe Campbell was a victim of being at the wrong place at the wrong time.
Nijel Thomas was with Campbell at the off campus party and said it was a random attack on an innocent crowd of college kids.
"An hour into the party, a fight broke out at the front of the house, so we all moved to the back to get away from the violence,” Thomas said. “Then another fight broke out and an arm came out the back and fired into an innocent crowd and hit Darren."
The past month for Dentonette Gordon has been an emotional rollercoaster to say the least.

"He was so easy to talk to," she said.
Gordon and Campbell dated at Clover Hill High and remained good friends throughout his first three years at ODU.
She was the one who drove to Campbell's moms house April 23, to tell her Darren had been shot
"I just hugged her as long as she needed," Gordon said.
CBS 6 reached out to Campbell’s mother, but she said she was too devastated to talk. She did make a plea for anyone who was at the party and has value information about her son’s killer, to turn him in.
Friend Darius Polk said it's the least you can do.
"Somebody definitely knows who it is. They just don’t want to talk,” he said. “You don't have to be scared of this dude. Do the right thing…. Do it for his mother."
