CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- Police, firefighters and hazmat crews are investigating after a suspicious package discovered outside a home in Chesterfield County Wednesday afternoon.

Sources said officials were working a possible meth lab investigation after a bag was reportedly smoking in the 6800 block of Conifer Road off Beulah Road.

Police said they were called to the address after a suspicious bag had a white cloudy substance coming out of it.

After examining the bag, investigators concluded the suspicious bag was a bag of trash potentially consistent with meth production.

Police said the items in the bag included smaller bags, some salt containers with tops cut off, and a Gatorade bottle with rubber tubing sticking out of it.

Police are investigating the incident as potentially being associated with meth production, but they said they cannot speculate at this time.

CBS 6 ran the address to see who owns the home, where the bottle was found Wednesday.

We're not releasing his name, but we discovered a man at the home has a long criminal history of drug related crimes, including manufacturing meth and child endangerment charges.

No charges have been filed in this particular incident, as police said the homeowners told them the bag was not associated with the home.

Police said they will look into whether or not someone could have been retaliating against those who live in the home by placing the bag there.
