HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- A nine-year-old child was found in the bathroom by Henrico Police conducting a prostitution sting at a West Broad Street motel Thursday, according to police sources. The child was in the room while the prostitution was taking place outside, the sources indicated.
Karen Jean Patterson, 42, and Ariel Patriscya Depiero, 33, were arrested and charged with keeping a bawdy place and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, a Henrico Police spokesman confirmed. The child found is the son of Depiero.
He is in the care of a family member according to Henrico Police.
"Henrico Police located an advertisement for sexual services in exchange for currency on an online forum," the police spokesman said. "Officers made contact with the number and were directed to the 7000 block of West Broad Street where they identified Patterson and Depiero. Officers also located a juvenile in their custody. The investigation revealed that both were engaging in prostitution with a juvenile in their custody."
Guests staying at the Best Western were in disbelief something like this could happen in this location.
"It’s disgusting! I mean how can they even do that to a child? It's terrible. It should not happen. They should have some type of security, checking who's going in and out," said Shirley Leithan.
"Now that you've brought up such an extreme situation it does make me wonder how certain hotels monitor the guests that step into their hotel and stay there so it's crazy," Brad Currao added.
Management at this best western had no comment. CBS 6 also reached out to their corporate office who did not respond to our email.
The women remain in Henrico County jail Friday night.
