An employee of the Midlothian Inn confirmed to CBS 6 off camera that is where the shooting happened.

Another employee said the victim was trying to run toward the office of the motel, but was shot on a walkway.

Neighbors in the area say it is sad to hear about the violence, but say crime is nothing new.

"The crime as a whole has to stop, the murder has to stop, it's senseless," one neighbor said.

Police said  they are actively working all available leads and gathering additional information as part of the ongoing investigation.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to either call Major Crimes Detective A. Sleem at 804-814-7123 or Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
