New sushi, steak house planned for Short Pump development

SHORT PUMP, Va. —  One of Richmond’s biggest restaurant groups plans to open another venture in a burgeoning Short Pump development.

Chris Tsui and his Eat Restaurant Partners plan to open a restaurant in 2017 in a 6,100-square-foot space at Markel | Eagle Partners’ GreenGate Development. The new eatery’s name has not been finalized, Tsui said.

“It’s a sushi and steak house,” Tsui said. “Not the hibachi-style steak house – probably a little more traditional.”

Eat Restaurant Partners owns Fat Dragon in Scott’s Addition, Foo Dog in the Fan, Blue Goat in the West End, Osaka Sushi & Steak near University of Richmond, and Wild Ginger in Midlothian. The company has also announced plans to open Boulevard Burger & Brew on the edge of Scott’s Addition and an eatery along East Grace Street downtown.

GreenGate is in development west of Short Pump Town Center along West Broad Street. The mixed-use project is set to break ground this month, once the weather clears up, said J.B. Gurley, a principal with developer and private equity firm Markel | Eagle. Plans call for 180,000 square feet of retail and office space, 200 single-family homes and 50 townhomes.
