Person walking downtown falls through faulty access hatch

RICHMOND, Va. — Crews rescued a person who fell through an “access hatch” downtown on Wednesday afternoon, near 1st and Marshall Streets.

A technical rescue call was made.

No word yet how seriously the victim was hurt, but investigators said that the incident is under control.

The man was walking and the plate failed and he fell through, according to Lt. Armstrong. He said it’s the building owner’s responsibility to inspect it. Nearby businesses say they don’t think any business is located there currently.
