On July 7, 2015, around 10:18 a.m. the Hanover Sheriff’s Office responded to a fatal accident involving two vehicles in the area of West Patrick Henry Road (Rt. 54) and Scotchtown Road.

The driver of the blue Jetta, identified as Brenda Garnica Arellano, a 19-year-old female from Glen Allen, was transported by Medflight to VCU Medical with life-threatening injuries.

On July 8, officials said she succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the gray 2008 Jeep Cherokee was traveling west on West Patrick Henry Road and the blue 2002 Volkswagen Jetta, occupied by Arellano, was heading north on Scotchtown Road.

The vehicles collided as they entered the intersection at the same time, police said.

Investigators are still collecting information in order to determine the circumstances that led to this tragic accident.

The Hanover Sheriff's Office said they wish to extend their sincere condolences to the family and friends of Brenda Garnica Arellano.
