CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- A Hanover man was arrested in Chesterfield County for possessing child pornography and having a sexual relationship with a child. Darnell Williams, 23, was charged with taking indecent liberties with a child and possession of child pornography.
He was accused of soliciting sex from a victim that is younger than 15 years of age, and the alleged inappropriate activity occurred between March and May 2015, according to court records.
Chesterfield Police began investigating Williams after a family member discovered the pictures.
Williams' address is listed in court documents as The Pines apartment complex in Mechanicsville. Neighbors are shocked.
"Pornography and children is really -- is really, really bad," Ruby Taylor, a neighbor said in reaction to the news.
Williams' felony charges could lead to a sentence of at least five years if convicted. WTVR CBS 6 legal analyst Todd Stone said mandatory time is issued by judges if the accused is at least seven years older than the alleged victim.
"The are all very serious felonies and they all require the offender registry," Stone said.
The court paperwork suggested Williams not only received explicit pictures, but that he sent them as well, Stone said. Williams' charges were so serious, Stone said the law required no bond be set in the case.
Williams will be in court July 28. and since he's told the court he has no income, he's received a court-appointed lawyer.
