RICHMOND, Va. — Witnesses tell police a car passed them through the main Powhite toll plaza at a high rate of speed before hitting the jersey wall and flipping.
As a result, people were sent to the hospital and two lanes of northbound Powhite Parkway traffic were left at a slow crawl.
With that white car on its roof, a Richmond Police crash team, recreated the scene and took measurements of the debris field. Police say five people were inside the car, including a child in a car seat.
Two people were taken to VCU Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The other three were also taken to VCU but late Tuesday there was no word on their condition.
The investigation is so far based on witness statements, with police saying drivers reported the white car traveling at a high rate of speed before the crash.
Things got back to normal by 8 p.m. on Powhite North.
