RICHMOND, Va. -- Will Wade has been named the VCU Rams new head basketball coach.
The former VCU assistant coach's name has been at or near the top of every search list since Shaka Smart announced he was leaving for Texas. Now the Rams will now be led by someone who is patterning his success after what Smart built here.
Wade came to VCU when Smart was hired back in 2009 and was part of the staff that took the Rams to the Final Four two years later.
Wade then left to take over at UT-Chattanooga two years ago. He was named Southern Conference Coach of the Year after his first season and won 22 games this past season. Additionally, Wade branded his style of play "Chaos" teaming off the "Havoc" that Smart helped create at VCU.
Wade will be formally introduced at the Siegel Center Wednesday morning. The public is invited to attend.
