RICHMOND, Va. -- The fatal shooting of a Richmond teenager has been classified as a Death Investigation by Richmond Police. Alex Jackson, 16, of Q Street, was found shot to death Friday morning along the 2100 block of Creighton Road.
Police responded to the shooting at about 12:23 a.m. Jackson was pronounced dead at the scene, another person, an adult male, was taken to VCU Medical Center with what police called a non-life threatening injury.
"My son is gone and I can't get him back," said LaShawn Parker, who is coming to grips with the loss of one of her nine children. “It's my son no matter what. He shouldn't be dead. He didn't deserve this."
Neighbors claim the teen, who lived in Mosby Court, was up to no good and had been in the neighborhood over the course of three or four days.
“Even though he was killed last night, people do not know the problems that he cause before he was shot. He had this family living on edge," said one neighbor.
CBS 6 reporter Jon Burkett asked Parker about reports that her son may have been involved in something and that a man claimed to have shot in self-defense.
“I don't know what to believe,” she said. “But if it's self-defense and they say he killed the guy, why he shot him in the back?"
Police said that additional officers will be deployed to monitor activity in the community.
Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to call Richmond Police Major Crimes Detective Jon Bridges at (804) 646-4494 or Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
