CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- Police have arrested a man in connection with a deadly shooting early Thursday morning along Tinsberry Drive in Chesterfield County, near Colonial Heights, Thursday morning. Police were called to the area at about 3:15 a.m. when a neighbor reported hearing at least two gunshots.
When officers arrived, they discovered 35-year-old Terrell J. Brown, of the 8000 block of Hickory Road, shot to death in the front yard of a home.
Police said a witness gave officers a description of the alleged shooter's vehicle. A few minutes later, officers spotted that vehicle on I-95 south near Woods Edge Road. The suspect, 37-year-old Sherman Hurrye Jr. was apprehended.
"The investigation indicates that Hurrye, of the 3000 block of Tinsberry Drive, and Brown were known to each other, and were involved in a dispute that led up to the shooting," Chesterfield Police Capt. Chris Hensley wrote in a news release.
Hurrye, was charged with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in relation to the incident.
Hurrye is being held without bond at the Chesterfield County Jail.
School buses had to navigate through the crime scene as the sun rose Thursday morning.
