FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — A man was charged with several crimes after he drove off in a car left outside a Fredericksburg Wawa. A Stafford man was inside the gas station store Wednesday night at 6:45, when he said a stranger got into his Toyota Camry and drove off.
“The victim flagged down a bystander in the parking lot and asked for his assistance in following the stolen car,” investigators said.
The victim and bystander drove after the stolen car and caught up to it at the traffic light on Central Park Boulevard and Plank Road.
“The victim got out of the pursuing car and attempted to open the driver’s door of his stolen Camry. The suspect pulled away and into the intersection while the light was still red, striking another vehicle traveling westbound on Plank Road. The victim ran to the Camry and extracted the suspect from the driver’s seat,” police said. “A physical altercation between the victim and suspect then ensued on the roadway. The suspect was able to break free and fled from the scene on foot toward Regal Cinemas in Central Park.”
Police searched the area and found the suspect, later identified as Dennis Ray Kidd, Jr, 31, of Stafford. Kidd was charged with felony larceny of a vehicle, DUI, hit and run, and assault. He is being held at Rappahannock Regional Jail.
