Mechanicsville man, 72, charged with sexually assaulting child at campground

MECHANICSVILLE, Va. -- A man accused of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old boy at a New Kent County campground is being held in jail without bond following his recent arrest. Darwin K. Noble, 72, of Mechanicsville, was charged with two felony sexual assault counts in Hanover and three felony sexual assault counts in New Kent County. The incidents involved the same child, Hanover County Sheriff’s spokesman Major Mike Trice said.

The alleged crimes took place June 6 and 7 at a New Kent County campground, investigators said.

"Noble’s activities involving children remain under investigation," Trice said. "Anyone with information relevant to this investigations is urged to contact the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office at 804-365-6140 or the Metro Richmond Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000."

Noble, who was arrested January 13,  is being held at Pamunkey Regional Jail in Hanover. This is a developing story.
