GOOCHLAND, Va. — The Goochland Drive-In Theater has received confirmation today that it will be showing “The Interview” from Sony Pictures. The theater announced that shows will begin next week either by Wednesday or Thursday.
Tickets are expected to be set at $5.00 for adults. Theater owner John Heidel has been lobbying to get the screening rights since last week and says that showing the film is important to him, especially if it is what the public wants.
“Censorship of any kind is wrong – especially from an outside entity,” Heidel said. “And as a small American business, we believe we have the right to show any movie we think our patrons would like to see.”
The controversial Sony Pictures comedy is also now available through YouTube, Google Play, the Microsoft Xbox video game console, and a special Web site. The movie was released online Wednesday and costs $5.99 to rent and $14.99 to buy.
Carytown’s Byrd Theater also lobbied to land the film, but was turned down.
