CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Charlottesville Police Chief Tim Longo called the 35-day search for missing University of Virginia student Hannah Graham the most difficult period of his 34-year career in law enforcement. Chief Longo spoke exclusively to CBS 6 reporter Laura French in an interview scheduled to air Tuesday on CBS 6 News at 11.

On October 18, 2014, in front of an international television audience, Longo announced the search for Hannah had come to an end.

"How do you prepare for that? How do you?" Chief Longo asked. "It was one of the saddest moments of a career to know that at some moment in time, that someone will have to sit down with two very wonderful and special people and share news with them that they don't want to hear."

For the first time since the search for Hannah ended, Chief Longo is answering questions about the Graham investigation and responds to critics turned off by his sometimes passionate policing style.
