RICHMOND, Va. — It is a debate that rages in homes, apartments and dorm rooms around Richmond. Who serves the best pizza in town? Are you a fan of Belmont Pizzeria‘s cheese slice? How about Pizza Tonight’s Fig and Pig offering? Bottom’s Up? SuperStars? Mellow Mushroom? Mary Angela’s Pizzeria?
Now you can help decide which pizza should be labeled Richmond’s best. Best Dish is a new website developed by Richmond-based web Mobelux.
“[It] is an on going, crowd-sourced competition to determine who makes the best food around town and across the country,” Mobelux producer Johnny Hugel wrote in an email. “Rather than focusing on characteristics that tend to adversely affect a restaurant’s rating — cost, atmosphere, location, and service — Best Dish recognizes the food as the most important aspect of a venue.”
Right now Best Dish lets users choose Richmond’s best pizza dish and best taco dish. Other food items are promised as the site develops.
“As it grows, the competition will expand to new host cities all over the US — creating a national, gold-medal food guide,” Hugel said.
“Best Dish is pretty ridiculous looking compared to your typical crowd-sourced food platform,” Best Dish Creative Director Rob Green said. “It has an unnecessary use of confetti, bold typography, giant buttons that move when you touch ’em, and a pretty distractingly fun use of color. We think Best Dish is extremely functional but also really fun to use.”
