SHORT PUMP, Va. – As an array of new shops arrive at Short Pump Town Center, one store at the mall is set to close its doors as part of a nationwide liquidation. Coldwater Creek, a women’s fashion store, is undergoing bankruptcy liquidation and closing its 330 locations nationwide, including its store at Shortp Pump and another at the Chesterfield Towne Center.
But Coldwater Creek, which has been at Short Pump since 2003, is the exception to a pattern of new arrivals to the mall.
In February, the owners of the shopping center announced renovation plans to add new structural features along with a fresh crop of retailers. Several of the stores will be new to Richmond, and most are set to open this summer.
Soft Surroundings plans to have its Short Pump location open in August near Dick’s Sporting Goods. The furnishing and women’s fashion store signed a 10-year lease in April for the 4,700-square-foot space, its first in Virginia.
“Richmond has always been on our radar,” said Danny Boddy, Soft Surroundings vice president of retail. “We felt like Short Pump was the perfect fit for our demographic, and we know where our customers shop.”
