SEATTLE, Wash. (WTVR) - Richmond native and Super Bowl champion quarterback Russell Wilson has filed for divorce from his wife Ashton. Wilson, who attended the Collegiate School in Henrico, released a statement through the Seattle Seahawks, about the situation:

"I have made the difficult decision to file for divorce," Wilson said. "Clearly, decisions like these don't come easy. Ashton and I respectfully ask for prayers, understanding and privacy during this difficult time. Moving forward, I will have no further comment on this matter."

Wilson and Ashton met in high school and were married in January 2012, reported CBSSports.com. Later that year the Seahawks drafted Wilson.

Wilson, who often tweets Bible passages, retweeted a message from @Scripture_Truth Wednesday that read, "God never promises the absence of storms. He just promises to walk with us through them."
