RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - Richmond police have released the name of the victim of a deadly Christmas shooting in the city's East End.

Police received "multiple" reports of gunshots fired along Old Nicholson St., near Fulton St., about 12:21 p.m., Richmond Police Major Odetta Johnson said.

When officers arrived, they discovered the body of 25-year-old Adam Jamal El, of the 800 block of Old Nicholson Street, lying on the ground at the intersection.

El, who police said had been shot, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Major Johnson said detectives were in the early stages of their investigation. Detectives do not believe this was a random act of violence, she added.

CBS 6's Chelsea Rarrick talked to a neighbor who said she knew she victim. She did not want to be identified but said she saw him walking his dog earlier that afternoon.

"It breaks my heart," she said.

Michael Baker drove down to the neighborhood from Prince George Wednesday afternoon. His family lives on Old Nicholson St., and the home is not too far from where police located the body outside.

Neighbors who live nearby said the area is particularly quiet, except for a few minor arguments here and there.

"I come out here at night. It's always quiet and peaceful, there's nobody around. We never have any problems," said Carolyn Dolly.

She said detectives have persons of interest in mind, however have not yet named a suspect.

Police asked anyone with information about the shooting to call Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.
