CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WTVR) - Virginia Senator Creigh Deeds has been discharged from University of Virginia Medical Center, according to the hospital.

"I am alive so must live. Some wounds won't heal," the Virginia senator tweeted at 11:25 a.m. Friday. "Your prayers and your friendship are important to me."

Deeds was stabbed multiple times Tuesday morning at this home in Bath County. Police said Deeds' 24-year-old son attacked the senator during an argument. Gus Deeds shot and killed himself after stabbing his father, police said.

Thursday night, students at the University of Virginia gathered to pray at a vigil for Sen. Deeds and his family.
