HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – A West End Kentucky Fried Chicken and Long John Silver restaurant is closed after firefighters put out a kitchen fire Tuesday morning. Fire crews were called to the fast food restaurant at 8810 Patterson Avenue at 11:16 a.m., Henrico Fire spokesman Capt. James Mellon said.

Mellon said a fryer in the restaurant caught fire and the flames spread from to the hood vent system. It took crews about 30 minutes to bring the fire under control, he said.

The restaurant was evacuated as smoke filled the restaurant. No one was hurt.

Mellon said restaurant workers told investigators “they discovered the fire under the fryer and attempted to use a fire extinguisher.”

Repairs will have to be made and a health inspection conducted before the restaurant can reopen, Mellon said.
