POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – Sheriff’s deputies found “several small skulls” and “skeletal remains of a very small animal” inside the home of a man charged with two felony counts of cruelty to animals in connection to the deaths of two Siberian Huskies, according to Anne Reynolds with the Powhatan Sheriff’s Office.
Those deputies searched Louis Nigro‘s Jeter Road home on Monday. Reynolds said the remains will be sent to the lab for testing. Investigators did not find any dog collars.
Nigro is accused of shooting and killing his neighbor’s dogs.
Nigro told CBS 6 senior reporter Wayne Covil that he saw the huskies near his rooster cage and thought they were going to attack and kill the roosters—so he shot them.
In an interview earlier this month, the dogs’ owner said this was not the first time dogs have been shot and killed on his street.
Nigro, who is free on a $10,000 unsecured bond, is due back in court February 15.
