HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- A large group of volunteers and Henrico County employees distributed care kits to about 15,000 homes in the central and eastern parts of the county Saturday.

Each care kit included a sealable bag with three face coverings, flyers with information about the 2020 census and COVID-19 along with info about free upcoming coronavirus testing events.

County officials said as the community continues to move forward with reopening, they want to make sure everyone is prepared with a face mask to protect themselves and those around them.

"I think that speaks for Henrico and really the Henrico way is that we're all in this together," one volunteer said. "And we're all going to help each other, and be unified with our approach, and we're really look to make a difference in our community."

The deliveries were no-contact to keep staff and volunteers safe.

Officials are planning a similar care kit distribution for next Saturday for western Henrico.
