US Marshals nab man wanted for deadly shooting near Richmond grocery store

RICHMOND, Va. -- Police have arrested a man in connection to a fatal shooting shot near a Richmond grocery store last weekend.

"Jarrett Fitzgerald was arrested Tuesday by the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force on outstanding warrants for robbery and use of a firearm in commission of a felony in connection to the homicide," a Richmond Police spokesperson said Friday.

Police said that additional charges are pending.

Officers were called to the 2200 block of West Broad Street around 1:54 a.m. for report of a shooting Saturday, Dec. 5.

"Once on scene, [officers] discovered Cory Hines sitting in a vehicle with apparent gunshot wounds," police said. "Before an ambulance arrived, Hines was driven by private vehicle to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead."

Detectives said their investigation revealed the shooting happened in the 2000 block of W Broad Street.

Police thanked investigators with VCU Police for their help in the case.

“With their assistance, relevant evidence was made available early on in this investigation. That proved valuable in confirming details of the case, which led to the offender being identified,” Major Crimes Detective K. Hughes said.
