HANOVER COUNTY, Va. -- All lanes of Interstate 95 north, near mile marker 87 and Sliding Hill Road in Hanover County, were shutdown Saturday morning as police investigated a fatal crash.
"A 1999 Jeep Cherokee (driven by a 37-year-old Midlothian man) was traveling southbound I-95 when he veered across the median striking a tractor trailer in the northbound lanes of I-95," a Virginia State Police spokesperson said citing the preliminary investigation. "The adult male driver of the tractor trailer lost control striking the guardrail and overturned. The tractor lost its load of boxed vegetables and has a diesel leak due to the damage."
The tractor trailer driver died at the scene, police said.
The Jeep driver suffered minor injuries and a Jeep passenger suffered serious injuries, police said.
Both were taken to the hospital for treatment.
The crash was reported at about 3:42 a.m.
This is a developing story.
