Richmond intersection closed after driver fleeing police crashes into car, utility pole

RICHMOND, Va. -- Police said a driver officers were trying to pull over crashed into another car and utility pole on Richmond's East End Saturday evening.

Capt. Michael J. Bender Jr. said officers tried to pull over a car for a violation at 6:20 p.m.

That is when Bender said the driver fled, ran a stop sign at the intersection of N. 21st Street and Fairmount Avenue before crashing into another car and a utility pole.

"The driver of the vehicle that was hit was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries," Bender said.

The driver police said caused the crash was taken into custody.

"The intersection will be closed while officers finish the investigation and clear the scene," Bender said
