Police: Security video shows man steal firearm from car in Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. -- Richmond Police is asking for the public's help to identify a man who is suspected of stealing a firearm from a car last week.

The incident occurred shortly before 6 p.m. on September 30.

Security video from a parking lot in the 4900 block of Government Road shows a man reaching into an a Ford Mustang convertible with the top down and taking a firearm.

Detectives are also reminding residents of RPD’s ongoing “Lock It or Lose It” campaign.

They are urging residents to take these precautions to prevent crimes of opportunity:

  • Lock car doors. Regardless of where it’s parked, lock up and keep valuables out of sight.
  • Never leave keys inside the car. It makes the vehicle an easy target.
  • Don’t leave a running vehicle unattended, even for a few minutes.
