CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- Police have a man in custody after an officer-involved shooting and barricade situation in the 13000 block of Sunfield Drive.
Chesterfield Police said they responded to a reported domestic disturbance at a home around 7:34 p.m. late Thursday evening. It was reported that an adult male had threatened an adult female with a knife and was holding her against her will.
Responding officers then entered the home and began to investigate the indecent.
"Shortly after they arrived, the male suspect then exited a bedroom and pointed what appeared to be a long gun at them. The officers fired at the suspect, who then retreated back into the bedroom. The officers made a tactical withdrawal from the house with the unharmed female and summoned emergency medical, negotiations and SWAT personnel to the scene," a police spokesperson said.
"Officers used a technological resource to locate the suspect in the house; the suspect, who was found in a bedroom, attempted to disable it," police said. "Officers then introduced a second technological measure and were able to see that the suspect was injured and somewhat lethargic."
Police say the suspect is in custody and now headed to a hospital for further treatment. "Officers on scene are conducting follow- up investigations. A long gun was recovered," said Colonel Jeffrey S. Katz.
This is a developing story.
