Pair wanted for armed robbery, assault at Petersburg hotel

PETERSBURG, Va. -- Authorities are asking for the public help to locate two men wanted in an armed robbery and assault that happened in the parking lot of a Petersburg hotel Wednesday afternoon.

Petersburg Police said officers were called to Mingea Street and Terrace Avenue jus after 2 p.m. "to locate a victim of an armed robbery."

When police arrived, they found the victim who officers said had been assaulted.

"The investigation revealed that the robbery and assault had occurred in the 20 block of S. Crater Road in the parking lot of the 0Y0 hotel," officials said.

Police said Melvin Jamaal Stith and Clifton Antonio Raines Jr. are wanted for the crime.

Stith is wanted on charges of Armed Robbery, Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, Possession of a firearm by convicted felon, Abduction and Assault, according to police.

Raines is wanted on a robbery charge, police said.
