RICHMOND, Va. -- A Petersburg man and woman were arrested Wednesday in the death of an infant last summer, police announced on New Year's Eve.

The arrests come more than six months after officers were called to a home in the 1900 block of Buckner Street for a report of an unconscious infant at 6:15 a.m. on Sunday, June 21.

Police said EMS crews and officers tried to save the baby, but that the infant later died.

Michael Thomas, 34, and Lekesha Thomas, 34, were taken into custody Wednesday without incident after police obtained indictments, authorities said.

The Thomases were charged with second-degree murder of an infant.

The pair are being held without bond pending a court appearance, according to police.

No details surrounding the circumstances of the infant's death were released.
