Man killed, woman injured in Richmond shooting; witness heard over 10 shots

RICHMOND, Va. -- Police are investigating a shooting left a man dead and a woman injured on Richmond's East End Thursday night.

Officers were called to the Oliver Crossing Apartments in the 1300 block of Coalter Street just after 7:30 p.m.

"Officers arrived and found an adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound," officers said. "He was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. He succumbed to his injuries shortly after."

Additionally, officers said a woman was "self-transported" to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Medical Examiner will determine the victim's exact cause and manner of death, police said.

A WTVR CBS photojournalist on the scene spotted officers picking up shell casings from the street.

A witness said they heard more than ten shots.

Investigators are looking into "retaliatory murder motive," according to Crime Insider sources.
