HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- A late Henrico County firefighter who spent much of his life serving others is receiving a special tribute.
Grover Barnett, who worked for the Henrico County Division of Fire from 1973 to 2008, rescued dozens of people and even delivered two babies.
"It was the best job I ever had and I miss it every day," Barnett told WTVR CBS 6 senior reporter Wayne Covil in 2019.
In 2017 Barnett ‘s kidney had to be removed and he was placed on the transplant list, so Barnett contacted billboard company Lamar Advertising is hopes of spreading the word.
The company was so moved by his story, they donated the space for free.
"It just melts my heart," Lamar Ad Exec Amanda Doran said in 2019. "He's an important part of this community."
So when Lamar officials learned that Barnett had passed away on Jan. 2, the company decided to honor him with a special billboard.
That tribute is located along I-64 east near the Staples Mill Road exit.
