8 displaced after Colonial Heights house fire

COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. -- Eight people have been displaced after a house fire in Colonial Heights on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Colonial Heights Fire and EMS, the fire happened at 12:25 p.m. on the 300 block of Hillcrest Avenue.

When fire units from Colonial Heights and Chesterfield arrived, they found heavy fire inside, which was under control in about 20 minutes.

Two people that were inside were able to make it out without injuries. In all, eight family members have been displaced.

Officials said the cause of the fire was determined to be careless cooking and the damage is estimated to be about $50,000.
