10-year-old boy killed on Genito Road

AMELIA COUNTY, Va. -- A 10-year-old boy was killed and an eight-year-old girl was injured in a crash on Genito Road in Amelia, according to Virginia State Police.

"The trooper's preliminary investigation reveals that a 2015 Nissan Altima, driven by, Amanda L. Barker, 31, of Amelia, was traveling westbound on Genito Road when she ran off road right in a curve, striking a cement culvert, and then striking a tree," a Virginia State Police spokesperson said. "Barker was not wearing her seat belt and was transported by helicopter for treatment of life-threatening injuries."

A 10-year-old boy in the car, who was wearing his seat belt, died in the crash.

An eight-year-old girl in the car, who was also wearing a seat belt, suffered life-threatening injuries.

The crash was reported Sunday, March 22, 2020, at 7:25 p.m. on Genito Road near Spring Branch Lane.

Speed was considered a factor in the cause of the crash, which remains under investigation.
