RICHMOND, Va. -- Police have released the name of a 31-year-old man killed in an apparent shooting Tuesday night in Richmond.
"Detectives have opened a homicide investigation and believe the victim was shot while in the 1800 block of Creighton Road and ran toward the area of 30th Street and Nine Mile Road where he collapsed," James Mercante, a Richmond police spokesperson, said in a statement.
Officials said officers were called to the area for a report of a person down around 11:42 p.m.
When officers arrived, they found a male suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
The victim was transported to a local hospital where he died of his injuries early Wednesday morning.
The victim has been identified as Benjamin T. Goode of the 500 block of East Beale Street.
The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.
