RICHMOND, Va. -- A Downed power line has caused a fire in the 3600 block of Brook Road in Richmond Tuesday evening. This is near Ginter Park Baptist Church.

The downed power line is believed to have been caused from a tree struck by lightning. The fire is contained on the power line, but smoke has filled the area.

Richmond Fire told CBS 6 reporter Rob Desir they could not do anything with the fire until Dominion Virginia Power arrived.

When Dominion arrived to the scene, they shut the power off, which allowed fire crews to extinguish the flames.

The fire and smoke caused one side of Brook Rd. to close temporally.

Stay away from all downed trees and downed wires. You can’t tell if a power line is energized by looking. If the power line is energized, the tree may be energized too. Call 1-866-DOM-HELP to report downed wire. False reporting delays restoration and can put people in harm’s way, so please only report downed wire if you see it.

Report outages on any mobile device at or by calling 1-866-366-4357.
