HANOVER COUNTY, Va. -- The "Golden Rule" of do unto others is exactly what's happening in Hanover County, as friends and neighbors come to help those in need.
"It's huge, it cut our work time probably in half," says Josh Smith, whose house was hit by falling branches during the Thursday night storm.
The help came after the Smith Family posted on Facebook they needed some extra hands.
"When they put the call out, Jamie and I got in the truck and came on out," says Christina Holt, who also brought their two children.
The Holts and Smiths believe when the time comes that helps needed, you lend a helping hand. "Because these are some of the best people we know. We've known them for a long time on the baseball field, in our personal lives and they would do the same for us in a minute" says Christina Holt.

A few miles away, Mary Fleming is grateful for her neighbor and the early Father's Day present he got last week. "I am very thankful because they had just bought him this power saw for a Father's Day present" she says.

After the storm passed by, Brandon Pritchard pulled out his new chainsaw and went to work.
"She wasn't going to be able to move those big things by herself" says Pritchard who adds, "I had the equipment and put it to good use".
Fleming says she knows she is lucky "I'm thankful and blessed that I have neighbors like Brandon to come over and do that for me".
Back at the Smith home, Josh knows all he can do for the friends who came to his aid is say: "Thank you, the words are all you can do".
