HENRICO, Va. – The popular Zaxby’s at 5816 Broad Street has closed for a few weeks to repair the building, which was abused by a car last week.
The parking lot is roped off to keep vehicles out as crews work to repair the structural damage.
“A driver attempted to u-turn on Bremo Rd. and accelerated instead of hitting the brake,” said Ryan Converse, who owns two local Zaxby’s. “It was an accident and no charges are being made.”
The car hit a crucial part of the building and caused extensive internal damage.
“At this time we are unsure of a reopening date, until repairs and further inspections can be made,” Converse said.
He said the store expects to reopen in four to six weeks.
The location opened on Feb. 8, and has been popular since day one, with lines often extending out of the parking lot onto Broad Street.
On the bright side, the Broad St. employees have helped prepare the store at 9110 Staples Mill Road, which will now open earlier than planned. This new location will be a 3,500-square-foot, with seating for 90.
Converse said the store will open on April 11, at 10:30 a.m.
The first 100 customers through the door will receive free Zaxby’s every week for a year.
The Athens, Georgia based restaurant chain operates more than 700 restaurants in 16 states along the Southeast U.S., specializing in chicken wings, chicken fingers, sandwiches, salads and more.
There are also three additional Zaxby locations planned for the area. One is in the works for Chesterfield County at 901 Walmart Way, across from Sam’s Club. There is also another location planned for Henrico County.
Some people waited in line for four hours to be among the first to get chicken from the new Zaxby’s on West Broad during their February grand opening.
