PETERSBURG, Va. — The Petersburg City Public School Board unanimously appointed Dr. Linda Shifflette as Acting Superintendent beginning November 1, 2015.

“I am delighted to have been asked to serve Petersburg City Schools as interim superintendent. I look forward to working with the School Board, faculty and staff, parents, city leaders, and community members of Petersburg over the next several months as we work together for the benefit of the children of Petersburg,” said Dr. Shifflette.

Dr. Shifflette retired as Superintendent of Hampton Public Schools in Virginia in July 2015. She served in that role since 2009.

She also brings more than 30 years of administrative experience from Hampton City Schools, having previously held the positions of business education teacher, cooperative office education coordinator, director of career and technical education, assistant superintendent, and deputy superintendent.

The appointment of Dr. Shifflette comes after current Superintendent, Dr. Joseph C. Melvin, asked to be released from his contract , effective October 31.
