A large area of high pressure has been across the region for a few days. This has provided mainly clear skies, low humidity and below-normal temperatures. Sunday through Wednesday mornings marked the coolest low temperatures since late May.
While Richmond International Airport recorded lows in the 50s, many outlying areas dropped into the 40s earlier in the week:
There were fewer 40s Wednesday morning, but temperatures were still below normal.
As the high moves a bit east of our area, warmer and slightly more humid air will return over the next few days. A cold front moving through over the weekend will bring back cooler readings early next week. Autumn officially begins on Wednesday, September 23.
