MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Determined to get a job at a restaurant in Memphis, 19-year-old Ladarrius Gilmore decided to walk 30 minutes in hot summer weather to the interview dressed in a full suit.
That’s when a stranger stepped in to help and changed his life.
Because of that chance encounter Gilmore now has a job at Central BBQ.
“He told me ‘do you want a ride,’ because he don’t want me sweating in my suit,” Gilmore said.
So Gilmore got in Hamilton’s car. As they talked, Hamilton was impressed when he found out that Central BBQ was hiring and he was making a long walk to fill out an application.
“He gave me a ride to Central BBQ and he came into the building. Then we talked to the manager, Mr. Tom,” Gilmore said.
Once inside the restaurant, Hamilton put in a good word for Ladarrius and explained the teenager was determined to find work.
“I am happy to help a guy like that who is just getting started,” said manager Tom Strange. “He’s got the right attitude and Ladarrius definitely has the right attitude.”
Gilmore is a student at Vatterott College. He said his new job will help pay some bills. He feels what happened to him is a blessing and he is grateful to Hamilton and his new boss at the restaurant.
