Woman killed after car slams into tree, overturns in Tappahannock

ESSEX COUNTY, Va. — Officials said a was 35-year-old woman was killed in a single-vehicle wreck in Essex County Saturday morning.

Virginia State Police said troopers were called about the crash of the crash, which happened on Route 635 (Pilkington Road), 1.4 miles north of Route 637 (Hustle Road), just after 7 a.m.

It happened when a 1993 Honda Accord was traveling north on Pilkington Road and ran off the road, struck a tree and overturned.

The driver, Rebecca M. Tatum, of Tappahannock, died at the scene. Troopers said she was not wearing a seat belt.
