FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — A 15-year-old Spotsylvania boy was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection to a weekend stabbing at the Greenbrier Shopping Center in Fredericksburg. The teenager is currently being held at the Rappahannock Juvenile Detention Center.
Anthony Carter, 29, of Albany, Georgia, and Mac Oliver Hughes, 30, of Portsmouth, Virginia, died after they were stabbed during a 2 a.m. fight in the shopping center's parking lot Sunday. A third victim, identified as a 29-year-old Stafford man, was injured and remained in the hospital.
"The victims were part of a group of adults who had attended a party at Jay’s Lounge prior to heading over to Cook Out for a meal," Fredericksburg Police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe said. "The suspect was one of a group of teenagers who had attended a graduation party before ending up at Cook Out."
Police said the victims' group and the suspect's group did not know each other prior to fighting in the parking lot. Police did not say what sparked the argument that ended in violence.
"During the assault, three of the adult males received stab wounds variously to the chest, back, and torso," police said. "None of the victims were armed."
Anyone with information that can help police investigate this crime is asked to call Detective Alexandra Cameron at 540-654-5778.
"We are looking for anyone who might have cell phone video or images of the fight or other images from earlier in the evening at Jay’s or The Cookout," Bledsoe said. "They may not be aware that the fight turned deadly, so they might not know how important those images are."
