CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- The mother of a local teen who took his life two years ago Tuesday says someone must pay for what happened.
McAllister Rielly hung himself in a tunnel at a Chesterfield County park.
His mom said it could have been prevented if doctors would have only listened to his request.
"It just hurts," said Darci Rielly. "I think we all feel this sense of loss."
Darci Reilly remembers her son McAllister Reilly, affectionately known as Cal.
"I miss just being with him," she explained.
The 17-year-old was weeks away from graduation when he hung himself. On the anniversary of his death, his mom is seeking justice.
"I just feel he was an innocent victim in all of this," she said.
She filed a lawsuit that states Cal suffered from mental illnesses. He was being treated at the West Wood Group, and at the same time he was in the midst of a bitter parental custody battle.
"Cal wanted to stay with me," she explained.
According to the suit, Cal told everyone involved he would kill himself if he had to live with his father.
But, according to documents, his request was denied because of recommendations from doctors.
Days later he took his life.
"It was just so avoidable," Rielly said.
The lawsuit lists the doctors involved, the center that treated Cal for his illness, and his father as negligent parties who all played a role in his death.
Rieley says she's working to make sure Cal's death isn't in vain.
"I never want any other family to experience what I've gone through."
CBS 6 reached out to all of the parties listed in the lawsuit but no one has responded.
