Mechanicsville man charged in murder at Henrico apartment complex

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- A Mechanicsville man was indicted on a First Degree Murder charge following the fatal March 28 shooting at the Coventry Gardens Apartments in eastern Henrico County. Ramil Thomas, 23, of Tarragon Drive in Mechanicsville, was indicted Tuesday.

Justin Gabriel Rogers, 22, of Bromby Street in Henrico, was killed in the shooting. Police have not released information about the motive for the shooting. Anyone with additional information about Thomas or Rogers can submit a tip here.

Thomas has a criminal history in Henrico that dates back to 2009, according to online court records. In 2009, he was charged with obstruction of justice following a courtroom outburst during the conviction of his older brother on voluntary manslaughter charges, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch. He also faced charges of damaging a public building, assault on law enforcement and driving on a suspended license.
