HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- The soccer field at Pocahontas Middle School had just been cleared of students when a lightning strike, around 6 p.m., hit the grandmother of a student.

The strike at the school, located along the 12000 block of Three Chopt Road in Henrico's West End, was confirmed by Henrico County Public Schools spokesman Andy Jenks. He said the woman and her husband were taken to VCU Medical Center following the incident.

The grandmother and her husband are expected to be okay. Jenks said both were conscious and in stable condition. Officials had just issued a warning to clear the field before the strike, he said. No students were injured.
