CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- Wegmans officially broke ground at the Stonehenge Village Shopping Center off Midlothian Turnpike on Tuesday morning. The 120,000 square foot Midlothian store will anchor the new shopping center.
"Stonehenge Village is a master-planned retail development that will contain approximately 230,000 square feet of retail uses, including a grocery store, restaurants and other shops," Chesterfield County spokesman Dave Goode said in a statement. "The project is located in a well-established retail corridor and is centrally located to serve the Midlothian community and the broader, highly suburbanized northwest portion of Chesterfield County."
When it opens next spring, the new Midlothian Wegmans will create 550 part-time and full-time jobs, Wegmans district manager Bob Farr said. The grocery chain will open another local store at the West Broad Marketplace in Short Pump around the same time. Wegmans currently operates six stores in Virginia and 85 stores in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland, and Massachusetts.
