HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — Virginia State Police have released the name of a Manassas man who died after the van he was driving ran off the road and struck a tree along I-295 Thursday afternoon in Henrico County.
The crash happened just after 2:05 p.m. on I-295 southbound at the 46 mile marker, according to Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Steve Vick.
Troopers said the 2006 Ford Econoline van was traveling south on interstate “at a speed that was unsafe for road conditions when the vehicle ran off the road to the right and struck a tree.”
The driver, 36-year-old Juan W. Flores Orellana, was transported to VCU Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.
Three passengers were also transported to VCU Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Vick said none of victims were wearing seatbelts.
Additionally, Vick said weather and speed appear to be factors in the crash.
