LUNENBURG, Va. — A high school student in Lunenburg County has been banned from school property after allegedly bringing a loaded handgun to school. Superintendent Charles Berkley confirmed to CBS 6 News that the freshmen brought the handgun to Central High School in Lunenburg on Monday.
Berkley credited several students with spotting the gun and alerting staffers. He said the student was unloading the gun in the bathroom when the students reported it.
As a result, the school resource officers confronted the student and removed him from school property. Berkley said the gun was found in the student’s backpack and that bullets were found in his pocket.
Berkley said the case is now being handled by the sheriff’s department and that a disciplinary hearing will be held Monday.
The superintendent said he did not believe the student was going to harm anyone.
There has been no word on what charges the student will face.
